If you are considering breast reduction surgery, we invite you to use our discreet online form to contact Dr. William H. Frazier, board-certified Florida plastic surgeons.
Breast reduction surgery reduces the weight and size of breasts and can help alleviate symptoms such as back pain, neck pain and bra strap grooving. Because the reduction will lift the breast, the result is typically a smaller, more attractive breast.
The goal of breast reduction surgery is not only to relieve the patient of symptoms related to heavy breasts, but also to achieve the shape and size that the patient desires. At Vero Cosmetic in Vero Beach, Florida, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. William H. Frazier is committed to creating aesthetically attractive breasts, not just smaller breasts.
Am I a good candidate for breast reduction?
Breast reduction must be carefully individualized to each patients needs. A consultation with Dr. Frazier, who is a distinguished graduate of Yale University School of Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, to evaluate your breast exam and discuss your goals can best determine how well the procedure will work for you. Usually, women with large, heavy, pendulous breasts will benefit from a reduction procedure.
How much scarring will I have?
There are several types of breast reduction procedures. The surgical option that is best for you depends upon your breast exam and goals. There is no way to reduce a breast without scarring. However, usually the scars are very well tolerated as a trade-off for smaller breasts. The scarring will be around the areola with a vertical component that extends down from the areola to the crease below the breast. No scars are ever made above the areola. Sometimes, an additional scar is necessary below the breast in the crease in order to give you the best contour possible.

What size will I be after the procedure?
It is imperative that you and your plastic surgeon understand one another regarding the size you wish to be. At Vero Cosmetic, you will have an in depth discussion regarding your desired size with Dr. Frazier so that you can have the aesthetic look that you want.
Does a reduction require additional procedures such as lift or liposuction?
Lifting the breast is an integral component of the breast reduction procedure and is included in the operative planning. The overwhelming majority of women who wish to have their breasts reduced also require a lifting of the breast tissue and nipples to achieve an attractive result.
However, nearly all breast reductions require liposuction of the area around the breast under the armpits in order to have a favorable look after reduction. There IS a cosmetic charge as a part of the reduction procedure and this is discussed and explained during the consultation with Dr. Frazier.

Will a breast reduction affect my nipple sensation?
Some women actually have improved nipple sensation after a reduction, presumably due to reducing the stretch on the nerves that innervate the nipple. Infrequently, a patient may have reduced sensation after the procedure. The less tissue removed the less chance of being one of the few that has some sensory loss. Most women have no change from the procedure.
Will a breast reduction affect my ability to breast feed?
Most likely, breast feeding will be possible after a breast reduction. A small percentage of women will have some difficulty. Every attempt is made to preserve as many milk ducts as possible to ensure the best chance of being able to nurse after a reduction
